| The Katalavox speech-recognition system can be used by micro-surgeons in operating
rooms, to control the movements of their surgical microscopes by giving voice commands,
instead of using foot-pedals. |
 |
The first use was in December 1984 at the Rothschild Institute in Paris by
Prof. Dr. Daniele Aron-Rosa during a cataract procedure. All functions of the surgical
microscope, such as Focus, Zoom, X-Y-movements were controlled by voice. |

Dr. Guy Foucher was the first hand surgeon to use the Katalavox in March
1985 at his hospital in Strasbourg, France. The voice-control system facilitates the use
of the zoom during suturing. |

Dr. Vincent Hentz, hand-surgeon at Stanford University
Hospital, was the first surgeon to use the Katalavox in the United States. |
|
|
| Today the Katalavox is used by micro-surgeons in many countries. It can also control
auxiliary functions such as video recording, motorized 35mm camera, room-light,... |
