The Kempf Hand-Control System
 |
The BMW models, equipped with steering-wheels with multifunction buttons,
can be adapted with an accelerator ring. All the button functions are maintained. The
accelerator is here in idle position. The leather covered ring, which turns freely over
its circular holder, is pushed towards the steering-wheel to accelerate |
| and to reach the kick-down (point where the automatic gearbox
shifts down). The main right-hand brake consists of a lever coming out of the dashboard
and pivoting around one horizontal and invisible axis. |
| |
|
 |
The brake-lever's knob moves downward. The mechanical
connection with the brake pedal is hidden behind the bottom cover of the dashboard.
Therefore, in case of an accident, the driver's legs will have no chance of touching any
mechanical elements of our equipment: the car's passive safety is not compromised by the
presence of the equipment required for the disabled driver. |
| The accelerator ring fits well, esthetically as well as
functionally on the traditional Mercedes steering-wheel. The secondary brake or park-brake
is activated by a small lever visible on the left next to the release knob (E-class), or
it is very discreetly integrated in the shape of a pull knob in the dashboard cover
(S-class). |

Our team of specialists, under the leadership of Jean-Daniel
Kempf, makes custom adaptations for drivers with muscular dystrophy and for quadriplegics.
Here they are in front of our company location in Paris, in the 15th arrondissement, not
far from the Eiffel tower. |
| |
|
|
|
| The accelerator-ring fits harmoniously the Peugeot 306/406
steering-wheels with 4 branches. The brake is activated by a downward movement of the
lever located on the right of the steering-wheel. Our latest brake model for Peugeot 106
is particularly ergonomical. |

At Kempf we have a long experience of adapting Porsches for
disabled drivers, even competition cars for hill races. Modifications of the servo-brake,
the power-steering and the adaptation of an automatic clutch are available. |

|
|
| All Citroen models can be equipped with hand-controls, while
maintaining the air-bag. |

| Yann Cadoret |
|
|
|
 |
After a career in mechanical sport
(he was twice Enduro European Champion), Yann Cadoret finishes the French endurance race -
Paris-Dakar in 34th place in 1987 and 88th place in 1988. No other disabled driver ever
finished this race before or since. |
| (Approximately 600 candidates start and only close
to 100 cross the finish line.) With two team-members on board and his wheelchair |
| attached to the outside, his Mercedes
4x4 was heavier than the ones from his competitors. This extraordinary accomplishment
didn't get the attention it deserved from the media. Today Yann Cadoret wins off-shore
races with his boat equipped with an accelerator ring. |
|
 |
| His boat is now made by Skater in Douglas,
Michigan, powered by two Mercury off-shore engines V6 200hp. |
|
 |
Clay Regazzoni The famous Formula-1
champion who is paraplegic due to a terrible racing accident, participated in the
Paris-Dakar endurance-race, the Rally of Tunisia and the Rally of the Pharaohs in 1988. In
the latter he finished first in his category (6 wheel drive) and 3rd of all the trucks. |

|
|
|
| His 600 horsepower Tatra is equipped by Jean-Daniel Kempf
with an accelerator ring, a right hand brake and an automatic clutch, Kmatic. |

| Philippe Streiff |
|
 |
Philippe Streiff, ex-Formula-1 pilot (56 races), injured during tests in
South America in quadriplegic. He likes driving his Gillet VERTIGO (250Km/h and world
record in accelerator) with the help of a joystick, because he can no longer turn a
steering-wheel. Next to him on the picture are Tony Gillet, maker of the Vertigo, and
Jean-Daniel Kempf who builds the joystick. |
| Philippe Streiff usually drives his minivan Matra Espace which
was offered to him by Matra. Its joystick adaptation was sponsored by Renault. |
